Not so amazing prediction: Big Quake Likely in California by 2037
I’d like to throw my predictions that are roughly equivalent (and much sooner) around. There will be big mudslides and fires in California before 2012. There will be flooding in the midwest and the gulf coast region by 2011. There will be a major hurricane in Hawaii by 2010. Brittany Spears will make an amazing comeback and get married to an as yet unknown future pop star by 2013. There will be a big screen version of the 70’s dance show Soul Train by 2015. The English will keep the pound and continue to travel the world looking down their noses at everyone. Americans will start to whine a lot more and travel less with the dollar in the toilet. And finally, a new technology will emerge in 2009 that will change the way we all live, or perhaps kill us all.

LOS ANGELES – California faces an almost certain risk of being rocked by a strong earthquake by 2037, scientists said Monday in the first statewide temblor forecast.
New calculations reveal there is a 99.7 percent chance a magnitude 6.7 quake or larger will strike in the next 30 years. The odds of such an event are higher in Southern California than Northern California, 97 percent versus 93 percent.
The last time a jolt this size rattled California was the 1994 Northridge disaster, which killed 72 people, injured more than 9,000 and caused $25 billion in damage.
